Gerald Ford is Dead; The Sun Bowl is ALIVE

Kudos to Gerald Ford, he was a great president..or so I hear. And I think it's wonderful that the flags have been lowered and the nation is in mourning for a great leader. I've got no beef with that. None at all.

BUT, I'm going to have to take a second out of my day to bash CBS.

Dear CBS,
I've heard that you guys run good television programming. I remember growing up in my house and having three television stations to choose from and I always picked you guys because you had that neat little peacock as your logo. Oh wait, is that NBC? Anyway, I don't have a cable subscription any more. Nonetheless, I made the trek across town to a friends house this afternoon to watch my beloved Missouri Tigers take on the Beavers from Oregon State in the Sun Bowl...which was to be televised live on your television station. Two friends and I stopped at Sonic on the way to the house, and then at the beer store, and WALA, we were set to go. Food, beer, and football. What could be better?

Upon getting to the house, it was locked and all of it's residents were out of town. So we picked the lock to the garage door and then unscrewed the door handle that lead to the house, all the while longing for a cold beer and watching our SuperSonic Breakfast Burritos get cold. ALL OF THIS TO WATCH YOUR TELEVISION STATION. We did all this for you CBS. And your peacock. Or is that FOX's peacock?

And we sit down, and we eat, and we talk like men talk when watching college football. And we're enthralled because the game is a GREAT GAME. What more could you ask for? A high scoring shootout through the first quarter, a terrible no-call on the 1-yard line that lead to a touchdown, and a Top 25 team getting upset through the middle of a second quarter. We were talking, and we were excited. IT WAS BOWL SEASON BABY!!!

AND THEN....

You fools at CBS decide to cut to a "breaking news story." Which happened to be coverage of a dead guy getting buried. Let's see: a great college football game or footage of a funeral? Of course, you'd be crazy to think we'd rather watch football. Your "breaking news story," which was "breaking" two days ago, has pretty much ruined my day. I'd been planning on watching this game on YOUR STATION for about three weeks now. If you want to show a funeral procession instead of football, it would be kind and EXPECTED of you to let your viewers know ahead of time. It's not like this wasn't planned.

Thanks for your time. As soon as this game is over, I'm never watching your station again....

until there's another game I want to see.

But if you ever cut to a dead guy getting buried during a great college football game again, it's over between you and I. And I mean it.

Sincerely,
David J. Unterreiner

*This is no way a beef on President Ford. Honestly, I know nothing about him. I presume he was a great man who deserves to be mourned. But I hate CBS.

*Missouri just got screwed again at the start of the second half. First a blown fumble call on the 1 yard line that led to a touchdown and now a blown call on the onside kick to begin the second half which led to another touchdown. THAT'S 14 UNWARRANTED POINTS.
