The Cardinals offered arbitration to two players earlier today, Jeff Suppan and Mark Mulder. This doesn't mean everything that it use to, but you can still expect Mulder to possibly accept it. Jeff Suppan, however, is another story. Soup is entertaining offers that involve four years, and ten million a year. However, the exciting news is that today he mentioned how much he would love to come back and play for the Cardinals. Other sources have mentioned that Suppan's plan is simply to run the market wild, but he plans on returning to the Cardinals in the end.
If either player accepts the arbitration offer, then they are considered signed for the 2007 season. The benefit for the Cardinals is draft-pick compensation, and both pitchers are in the market as BIG time pitchers, so if either one of them signs with another team then the Cardinals would get an additional first round pick as well as a mid-round pick. Don't ask me how it works, it just works that way.
I'll take either one of them, what about you?

I really hope Suppan accepts, not just because he had an amazing post season, but because he is a good pitcher to have at the end of a rotation to eat up innings. He is never going to be a 20 game winner but he is going to most likely get into the 7th inning and give the bullpen a rest. Mulder I don't know I could go either way but I would rather see him leave and get someone better or younger.
