Two Minutes of Fun

Where are the Jackson folks? I never hear from you guys. Do you really think you can beat Charleston? Are you losing sleep thinking about it? With number one on the line, and with SEMO's recent skid into the losing column, this game takes center stage in the area. Coming off a huge win at home against old-school numero uno Sikeston, and with South Iron breathing down your neck like a nagging girlfriend, the pressure is on. And if you don't think this is a big opportunity for Coach Scott to heave a laugh into his critics face (which are abundant on this website), then you're off your rocker crazy. The boys in red and black have beat Notre Dame and Sikeston in the past couple of weeks and now have a shot to knock off Charleston, not as feared as they once were, but Charleston nonetheless. And getting back to South Iron, are you really ready to relinquish the throne to a small school? Or does it stay in Jackson?

IS IT SAFE TO SAY:
*Archbishop Raymond Burke needs to step back for a minute and ponder his actions as Archbishop? I don't believe his job is to publicly criticize basketball coaches on their political beliefs. Let the man go, it's not your job to bark at him. I think there are few other problems existing in your area that should be addressed first and foremost. When everybody has a home and everybody is well fed in the St. Louis area and the crime rate isn't one of the worst in the countries, then maybe you can start your media campaign. But until then, your job is promote love.

*A five game losing streak isn't going to help the Blue's media campaign?
*Eli may be the next Peyton? One interception in his last four is looking awful Brady-like.
*Watching the playoffs from the couch might inspire the Ram's offensive line to quit being pansies and start playing football?

I hate to say it, but the Patriots win this one by 21. Enjoy your chips and salsa though.

And Jackson, SOUTH IRON IS BREATHING DOWN YOUR NECK.

Ha, Sikeston had an off night, and Mike was in foul trouble. Nonetheless, Jackson is number one around, South Iron wouldnt get within 20 of us... I just hope we rebound form this and get back the number 1 spot. Congrats Jackson

Yes, Jackson played an outstanding game, Sikeston had a off night and the referees were horrible. Some of the worst officiating I have seen all year.

The officials get payed to call the game, not to be police officers and conduct crowd control. Let the many administrators and police officers take care of the crowd so you can watch the players and make good calls.

As I walked around the gym during the game I observed students from both schools showing great sportsmanship while having fun cheering, till a uptight referee put a stop to it.

It seems to me that the unsportsmanship like conduct always comes from the adults more than the students at any sporting event. It's sad when students can conduct theirselves better than the adults. What kind of example are we setting for our youth?

GO JACKSON!

Who in the heck is South Iron?

Ha, the ref put a stop to it, because we kept asking him how much he was payed to blow the game, and cursing and stuff. Haha, but we got along fine iwth jackson fans, and the refs were very bad. Good Luck to Jackson the rest of the way, and same to my Bulldogs ;)

Apparently this child from Sikeston thinks it's funny to curse at referees. Isn't he the same kid who kept bashing ND a few weeks ago about their lack of class? I can't wait until this student, as well as many others, realize that cursing and taunting refs is immature, embarrassing to their school, and extremely inconsiderate. I hope this Sikeston kid will keep his mouth shut not only during games but also on blogs. He no longer has room to talk about other students talking crap.

I'm sorry if I cant tell every teenager that is sitting down what to do. Its not my fualt, all I can do is cheer, and suport my team. Its not my job to play the Babysitter. I was just explaingin why, and if u saw the refs, you would know why they were acting like that....

On a basketball note, I think that if Jackson can shoot even close to how they did Tuesday, they will be verrry tough to beat, Is thier district tough?

Charleston will play the role of spoiler in the SEMO Conference. Jackson had a very difficult time with Charleston's quickness in the first contest, not to mention, this game is at Charleston where Jackson always has a tough time.

Couldn't agree more, Jackson better look out, because Charleston will be hungry, especially at their place.

Still don't know who South Iron is and how they fit into this whole thing.

South Iron is the team that hasn't played anybody and will get beat by 10 at home by Bell City soon. I hear they are a pretty good ballclub and are currently ranked number 1 in the state in class 2. But when you look at their schedule they have not been tested by any teams worth mentioning which is sad because strength of schedule is typically an important factor in making a run to state.

Don't think you really know much about the Majerus story and what the archbishop's "job" is. Majerus shouldn't use his post as a soapbox and the if the archbishop's job is to promote his church's point of views. he has to respond to this.

anyways, go giants.

Who were those Refs? Don't know if I've seen the one that made most of the calls.

Anonymous said...

Ha, I wouldnt know, I just hope he doesnt ref too many more games in the Semo Conf...

I have to say that I agree with the comment about the archbishop doing his job. If Majerus is not to be criticized than we need to apply that same courtesy to the Archbishop. Majerus happens to be the coach at a Catholic University in his diocese. I salute Bishop Burke for his courage to speak up on that and other matters. How refreshing for a leader to take a stand on his beliefs regardless of how unpopular it might be. Has anyone read the recent article on Majerus in Sports Illustrated? I don't think officials at SLU had privy to some of this stuff before they hired him. He is a good coach who has done some very strange things.

The NCAA nailed him once for taking a player out for pizza after the players dad died.

Chalk up another one in the column: "where sports have gone wrong." If a coach can't console a player who's lost a family member, then what is he there for?

The NCAA dropped the big ball on that one, putting money before family.

Dave, I am going to have to disagree with you in a big way about the Archbishop making a stand. If you work for a place that stands for something, you can not use your position to publicly state your political beliefs about abortion. Especially when the place you work for is pro-life. There is no doubt in my mind that I would be fired if I started taking advantage of my position and voicing my opinion about my political preference. Don't get me wrong, I could care less and I'm sure the Catholic Church could care less which way he votes when he is behind the curtain. But to use his position to share his ideas was totally uncalled for. For the archbishop not to step in would have been a problem. If your going to question the Archbishop, question whether or not he should fire this classless man.

Dave- I'm behind you on this one. As for your older cousin, I can promise you the Catholic Church cares which way you vote when you're behind the curtain. To say that is stupid. Of course they care.

The bishop has no rule over St. Louis University. Even though the college is located in his diocese, it is not under his rule. So the University of St. Louis doesn't have to follow what he says. I highly doubt, from reading about the type of person coach Majerus is, that he was using his position to influence the public on abortion. I doubt he really cares either way.

I agree with David, get the dying people off the streets and feed every homeless person out there and save their lives. A life is a life, why isn't he stepping up and saying stuff against people who don't hand the poor a blanket every night.

Dude wake up , are you from ND?
Jackson folks are just supporting their team, do our talking on the court, good luck to all the area teams. This is when it gets fun.

Hahaha, David you are something else.
Patriots by 21? Id like to remind you that they barely got out of NY with a win last time, and they havent covered the spread since week 8, and being that the spread is 11, they more than likely wont get anywhere near there.
If youd like to make a wager on even 14 points, give me ur emial and we can set something up......But, i think that u, like the rest of the world, will be in for a treat come superbowl sunday

Sikeston1213- You are just like every other person picking the Giants. The only reason you are picking is them because you want to pick the underdog, which the Giants are-by a lot, that way if they lose, you can say that they were expected to lose.

If would honestly put down money on the Giants because you thought they can win, then you are crazy.

I'm not saying the Patriots are going to win, because crazy things happen in sports. And I won't be rooting for them either. But, I will say that I believe they are going to win, along with every other sane person in the world. Have you seen the Patriots play this year?

Anonymous said...

Why would Jackson care if they are number 1 on the semosportsweb?

Anonymous said...

I agree with David that the Patriots will win by 21. I think they're that good. Call me crazy.

Tip Off
If i thought the g-men were gonna win, why would i talk about a spread ;)

Ha, i said shocked, as in, close game. Everyone is pickin a huge blowout, but i think it will be different.....
