It's always every one's fear, will there or will there not be a lid on the bucket when your team comes to play? From what I could tell from a computer desk 700 miles away, Sikeston brought a lid with them.
Shots just didn't seem to fall for the red Dog's tonight. Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you. It's a shame, I was hoping for a better game. A nail biter that came down to the wire. But, in the end, the blue and white got the best of the district. And my hat's off to Notre Dame.
There was no doubt that both teams deserved to be there. Sikeston not being able to muster the points tonight certainly doesn't make them a poor, undeserving team. They belonged there. My hat is off to Sikeston as well. This was my first time getting to see them play a full game, and as far as I'm concerned, all the trash-talking from Sikeston fans was legitimate. The red Bulldogs put a quality team on the floor this season, and made a noble effort come tournament time. Sometimes the ball just doesn't go down.
And I'm a believer. Michael Porter is one hell of a basketball player. He handles himself very well out there, and it was a pleasure getting to see him play.
As for Notre Dame, the task continues. There is work to be done. It's time to represent the district and the region as they continue to play on. I know that most people think the winner of tonight's game has a pretty good shot at being in Columbia in a few weeks. But it's tournament time, and this is where upsets love to live. So be careful, Notre Dame. Don't be on that high horse just yet.
Keep working. And make the region proud.

I read somewhere that this game would come down to coaching. Sure, it's the boys that have to play the game and execute, but I think Coach Paul Hale had an excellent game plan that had much to do with the basket having a lid on it on the red Bulldogs' end; excellent pressure on the ball; collapsed down low on Porter to render him ineffective; pushed the guards out farther on the perimeter for NBA range trifecta attempts. And, Willen! Can't say enough about him; he played his typical game!
Congrats, Sikeston. A bad game at the wrong time.
Congrats, ND. Keep it going and bring one home for SEMO.
Had u been there you wouldn't have given Sikeston near the credit you did on here, david. It's ok to say that your alma mater is a much better team than sikeston.
Sikeston is not a good basketball team.
Good job ND. You guys earnned it. Brign it home for Southeast. To my bulldogs, hold your head up, we had a great season.
23-4 isnt too bad. Numbers dont lie. both teams were very good.
Sikeston did not play well; that doesn't mean they are not a good basketball team.
Notre Dame played very well. Willen displayed his all around superiority. Coach Hale had his team ready and executed a good game plan about as well as could be expected.
ND played it well. Hat's off to them. I didn't beleive they could beat us, but you proved me wrong. Hope they do it big for the Class 4 District 1.
Paul Hale is hands-down one of the best coaches in the state. He's made winners at every school he's been to -- that's pretty amazing.
I second the comment on Coach Hale. ND is very lucky to have him. He is a no nonsense type of coach who gets his kids to play all out 100% every second of the game. A Paul Hale coached team will never get beat because of lack of effort.
There is no doubt Sikeston is a good team but they played as bad a game as you could possibly imagine last night. I give ND lots of credit. They took Sikeston out of their game early. There's usually a reason teams play bad and ND was the reason last night. It has become a great rivalry with the games providing a great atmosphere for these kids to play in. As Mark pointed out in his blog both teams displayed good sportmanship and seem to have lots of respect for each other. Good luck ND the rest of the way.
Thats because Mark is a pompous ass that likes to rub it in the face of the losing team. ND is a better team this year than Sikeston, and that was proven. I'm glad ND won so he had some material to write about, pretty sure if Sikeston had won the blog would have had a paragraph about the game in the midst of another topic.
What is really sad about this whole thing for Sikeston? Coach Hale applied for the Sikeston job a few years ago and we didn't take him!!!
I wonder how many titles Hale,Cookson or McFerren would have at Sikeston by now????
Hale, 2
Cookson, a million
Mcfarenn, I don't think wouldve made a difference.
I was just curious when Hale applied for the job at Sikeston? Holifield has been the Head Coach now for 10 years. Did he apply between Fred Johnson and Holifield? Just curious.
Hale applied when they hired Fred Johnson and I still haven't figured that one out??
Makes you wonder...lol
