So South Iron failed in their quest to become No.1 in our hoops poll. Nobody can decide who should be ranked above everyone else. Area fans apparently thought I was joking when I said I found a girl that could beat Porter and Willen. Scott County is ranked three spots ahead of Bell City, despite two less wins and a loss to the Cubs. Nobody seems to care about that injustice. And everything seems to boil down to Feb. 22 when the Dogs in red meet the Dogs in blue.
And for Christ's sake, let's hope that everybody is healthy so we can stop listening to the cheapskate excuses about Ryan Willen and Austin Greer being hurt, or about Sikeston having bad shooting games and missing their three point threat. It's all crap. Each team fields five players every single game, you win or lose with those five. That's your team for that night. If you can't beat the other team, then you lose. It doesn't matter whether you think you were the better team that particular night, because you weren't. You lost. Plain and simple.
The better TEAM is the team that can adjust when things aren't going their way. The best TEAM is the group of kids that can come together without their star player. Willen and Porter might be the best players in the area, but that doesn't mean their team is the best team. Until Notre Dame proves it can win big games with or without Willen, it can't claim to be a great TEAM. Until Sikeston proves it can find ways to win despite having a bad shooting night, it can't claim to be a great TEAM.
Once the class sizes are aligned and there's no clear advantage due to school size and talent pools, similar to the situation with Notre Dame and Sikeston, the best team in the region is the team that figures out how to win with the five guys their coach has on the floor. There's nothing more to it.
If you can't win without Willen, then maybe you're just four guys relying on someone else. If you can't find a way to win while shooting poorly, then maybe all you are is a team with one attribute, lacking many others. Neither one of those characteristics goes far in my book when it comes to distinguishing the best from the better.
So the verbal shots and lame-ass excuses aside, there's only twelve guys at a time on Feb. 22 that will decide who's the better team for the time being. Ten ballers and two coaches. So yap it up all you want, but when SEMO high school hoops hits the big time on Feb. 22...your banter doesn't mean jack.

There only sending 700 tickets to each school, and thats it. So you better call donw and get some tickets if you want to get in......Apparently, it only holds 14 or 15 hundred. I figure they'll sell a hundered or so the day of the game, but i doubt youll get in if you dont make early adjustments.....

Mrs. Tucker. It's funny b/c he has to give her a hug just about every time he walks by her room. Of course, she was his teacher two years ago. I graduated from Sikeston in '01 and Hannibal-LaGrange College in '05. Josh Jackson is probably close to your age...Hannibal-LaGrange is where he's playing college baseball...I played soccer there. I moved back here and try to attend as many Sikeston events as possible. (more basketball and soccer than anything).
Now that was an excellent blog, I am glad to see that certain people are starting to realize that ND isnt what the world revolves around. Like it or not, all the talk aside, this potential match-up will be a coin flip. Nd comes out shooting well, I say they win. Sikeston controls their number of turnovers, they win. If both happen, we get an awesome game with neither side deserving to lose just like the past two years. ND, Sikeston and St. Charles West have claim to the Class 4 crown. Two of them will match up in the final game. It is just a shame that ND and Sikeston have to put the other one out.
Ahh, I had mrs. Tucker too. She was awesome. Yah, I know Josh, hes a few years older, he was on my baseball team last year. I play soccer as well, so I'm sure your familiar with Coach Long. Do you come watch soccer now? If so, you'll see me next year, since Droddy moved away(hopefully ;) )

This is crap. Everyone knows that Sikeston can't even hold the jock straps of the ND Blue. They will not even show up to play this game. They are shaking in there boots. I do know one thing and that is last years game was a flop because we should have blown them out but the refs made it closer than it should have been. Again the Sikeston faithfull are lucky it is not in Sikeston again this season cause I can see it now (this is our house) The sikeston gym is ND's House.
Now, the talent of Porter and Willen is about equal, that is When Willen was in fifth grade compared to Porter now. Porter would probably be the fourth option for the ND team this year. This wont even be a game. ND will wipe the floor with them. I am calling the mercy clock in the fourth.

soccer...and, there's no reason why you can't have three coaches for the jv/varsity soccer teams. and, coach long didn't play for sikeston...coach noe did, however. and, i don't know of any reason why either coach would leave. but, coach long did tell me he'd like to have me on the staff to help out. i wonder if some of the ridiculously ignorant anonymous comments are sikeston posters trying to post bulletin board material to pump sikeston up...not a terrible idea...but, kinda odd. if the posts are from ND posters, they are among the most arrogant posts i've ever seen. the posts make me think that you think ND needs to go ahead and move up to the NBA...or straight to the olympics as the dream team. awww, i'll just go ahead and admit it...sikeston should just stop fielding sports teams altogether because there's no point playing a regular season when we know ND will beat us in every sport by at least 10 pts!!
On a more serious note...why can't people learn to respect the rivalry that has been created in the last 8 years or so between sikeston and nd in baseball, basketball, and soccer? There wouldn't be near as much to look forward to each year in sports if it wasn't for these two schools battling it out time and time again.

I agree not all ND fans think that the game against Sikeston is going to be a blow out. I feel it will be a close game until Willen takes over in the fourth. I do think we will win but Sikeston is better than most teams in the state just not us. That is how most ND fans feel. They are good just not good enough. I don't understand all these claims that Porter is so much better than Willen. I only hear them coming from Sikeston fans, I guess they're a little biased. Mike and Ryan aren't the same players. If you want to compare them as strictly inside players, then I'll take Willen. If you want to compare them as all around guys who can step out and knock down the long shots, I'll take Willen. They were BOTH Conference POY last year (along with Justin Clark). I'd say they're on a pretty similar level.
As for the game...I've said it before (although maybe it was on MoSports) that to say there is a clear-cut favorite is kind of ridiculous. Sikeston should have the advantage on rebounds, but can they contain Notre Dame's 3 point shooters. Notre Dame is by far a better free-throw shooting team, but can they stop all of Sikeston's high-flyers inside? It will be a great game once again, how about an overtime game this time? And "anonymous," if you are a fellow ND fan, or someone pretending to be an ND fan for some other purpose...please shut it. These things can make for great discussion until some anonymous poster gets on here and talks trash about schools, teams, or individual players.

Yah, Sikesotn has the high flying ability, rebounds, and the ability to go on streaks like no other team in the state. ND has free throw shooting and clutch threes. So we'll see who wins. I can't think of 2 more evenly matched teams in the state.

I don't care how bad each person from Sikeston treats Nd fans. I don't care how bad each person from ND treats Sikeston Fans. Just let boys be boys and play a game that they love. Most of the guys in this game will never play another game after high school. I am honored to say I saw Tyler H. play in high school and I will be just as honored to say I watched alot of heated battles between Willen and Porter. This is the SEMO version of Magic vs. Bird. Fun to watch even if your team loses.

I believe I said this over at mosports, but I believe we all are putting the "cart before the horse". Remember, Sikeston and ND BOTH still have to make it TO the finals. Which they most likely will, but we should wait till the 22nd JUST to see what happens.

No sikeston1213, I wasn't sarcastic, just teasing about needing a ticket. Lots of people hate ND for whatever reason, I couldn't tell you why. I made the choice to transfer to ND after my 9th grade year, so as someone coming is with an unbiased view, I thought ND and the people there were great. The only time ND "hated" Sikeston when I was there was when we were watching our teams play on the field or the court. Otherwise, I don't think people really thought about it. Several kids from ND have friends from Sikeston, and it's probably the same down at Sikeston.

Michael Porter is only #33 in the state. Willen will probably be in the top 5. Just proof ND will produce better.

Porter was #29 last year and for some strange reason he dropped. I pulled this straight from MFloyd on mosports as regard to his stats:
"He’s averaging 0.2 points less, rebounds are the same, and every single other statistic is better, including he's knocked down six 3's. His biggest improvement is blocked shots. He's averaging about 4 bpg. He's had several games where he got 7 or 8 blocks. We also have more balance this year with four around double figures whereas last year we only had 3. He's a much more complete player this year and he just keeps getting better. He's so unselfish that he holds his own scoring average down. Doesn't bother him a bit as long as we win. I haven't seen every kid in the state but we're happy with ours. Complete player in addition to a complete kid. I too am surprised that he actually dropped in those rankings. Doesn't matter though. We just want to win."
I think that's a pretty good ranking considering Michael is only a JUNIOR and Willen is a SENIOR. We'll see where he ranks next year, then you have something to compare to.
That make no sense at all. Michael probably doesn't even care what he ranked. Also the guy that did this report doesn't even know enough to get the story straight. He stats in the article that the Michael is performing well for the TIGERS.
